John Lofton’s Blog Entries, 2005
- John Lofton C-SPAN Appearance “Recovering Republican” John Lofton, who is also Editor of TheAmericanView.com and co-host of “The American View” radio show, appeared as a guest on C-SPAN TV Saturday morning, December 24, 2005. He debated Jim Winkler, General Secretary of the United Methodist Church’s Board Of Church And Society. The topic was the “morality” of recent “cuts” made in the Federal budget by Congress. This program can be viewed by going to C-SPAN’s Web page, clicking on the “Washington Journal” program, then click on the December 24, 2005 program.
- Abortion Is NOT Legal!
Nothing could be further from the truth. Abortion is not legal in America! Recognition of this fact is the first step for the pro-life movement in its campaign to turn back the murderous scourge on innocent babies. Indeed, heart disease (738,781 deaths per year) is not the number one cause of death in the United States - abortion is, at well over a million deaths per year. - “Slick Hillary” Has No Credibility On Baby-Murder In Red China When She Favors Abortion In America
In her 1995 address to that U.N. conference on women in Beijing, Hillary said that one of the issues that matter most in the lives of women and their families is “the chance to enjoy basic legal and human rights and participate fully in the political life of their countries.” She said: “Every woman deserves the chance to realize her own God-given potential.” - Iraq Constitution An Islamo-Fascist Document With A Sharia-Governed State Controlling Virtually Everything; Not Worth Shedding One Drop Of American Blood Well, interestingly, this new Iraq Constitution enshrines what could be called Islamo-fascism since, under it, Islamic Law rules and the State runs almost everything. I am using word “fascist” here to mean a system of government marked by centralization of authority and stringent socioeconomic controls.
- Karen Hughes: U.S. Ignoring “Freedom Deficit” In Mideast Created Conditions That Caused 9/11!
Karen Hughes, a long-time Bush political operative and advisor, is Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. She was the keynote speaker recently at the 2005 Forum on the Future of Public Diplomacy in Washington, DC. Here’s some of what she said that’s worth commenting on. - Alito Not Pro-Life; Voted To Overturn Ban On Partial-Birth Abortion Which Is Infanticide
But, to put it charitably, Ertelt’s pseudo-news story here is shamefully misleading and ridiculous. - Alito Says Pennsylvania’s Pro-Life Law On Medicaid Abortions Too Strict; Didn’t Allow “Physical, Psychological” Exceptions
Judge Alito voted with the majority against the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act requiring the reporting of abortions by rape or incest because it did not include a waiver option if the treating physician certifies the patient was unable, for physical or psychological reasons, to comply with the requirement. - In New Jersey Wrongful Death Suit Alito Agrees With Roe v. Wade That Unborn Child Not “Constitutionally” A Person
On July 15, 1992, Karen F. Alexander, who was then eight and one-half months pregnant, was admitted to the Jersey Shore Medical Center to give birth to her child. The vital signs of Ms. Alexander’s baby were taken only fourteen minutes prior to delivery by cesarean section, and the unborn baby appeared normal and healthy. Tragically, however, the child was stillborn. - Specter Says Alito Accepts As “Good Law” Griswold Case Which Was Neither “Good” Nor “Law” And Gave Us Roe v. Wade
But, the Griswold case is neither good nor law. It is not good because this 1965 case simply invented a Constitutional “privacy right” from “the penumbra of specific guarantees of the Bill of Rights,” supposedly the First Amendment which, allegedly, “has a penumbra where privacy is protected from governmental intrusion.” Oh, and it was also said that these Bill of Rights “penumbras” are “formed by emanations.” - Alito Agrees With Anti-Christian “Lemon” Test Denounced Repeatedly By Justice Scalia
In the 2004 “Child Evangelism Fellowship of N.J., Inc. v. Stafford Township School District” case, Judge Alito ruled that a school district had to treat a non-profit Bible-centered child evangelism group the same as other community groups with regard to the distribution and posting of literature related to the group’s after school club and with regard to the opportunity to display literature and to staff a table at the annual Back-to—School night. - Howard Phillips Right On Souter; Pat Robertson Fooled Because He Was And Is Republican Party Cheerleader
Well, no, Pat Robertson knew nothing about Souter, or so he says. And he knew nothing because he was and is a Republican Party cheerleader. Indeed, by his own testimony, he admits that he relied on those pushing Souter for information about Souter - not a very thorough investigation I would say. - A Profile In Moral Cowardice: Jay Sekulow Uses Pro-Life Issue To Raise Millions Of Dollars But Says John Roberts Must Not Be Asked About Abortion
Pat Robertson’s supposedly pro-life “American Center For Law & Justice” has raised millions of dollars on the abortion issue. But, strangely, the “ACLJ’s” Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow is adamantly against Bush Supreme Court nominee John Roberts being asked about the abortion issue in his upcoming confirmation hearing. - “Minuteman Project” Founder Jim Gilchrist – A Man With A True American View – Running For Congress In California; Doing The Job Bush Refuses To Do By Fighting Illegal Immigration
As a result of their study, the Immigration Reform Caucus observation team issued a number of workable recommendations—which I endorse in principle, and which I will work hard to see implemented if I become your Congressman. Among the team’s findings are these: - Interview With A Bush/GOP/Roberts Cheerleader: It Did Not Go Well Once Austin Ruse Realized I Was Not Also Cheering
Mr. Austin Ruse, president of the “Culture Of Life Foundation,” is one of the more enthusiastic cheerleaders for Bush Supreme Court nominee John Roberts. So, I was eager to interview him thinking he might know something about Judge Roberts that I had missed. Here’s that interview in its entirety. It did not go well once he realized I was not joining in his cheers for the nominee… - Venezuela’s President Chavez Just One Of Several People Robertson Has Said Should Be Murdered
Forgetting, evidently, that there is such a thing as video tape, all the world now knows that Pat Robertson recently called for the assassination, the murder, of Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez — though he, at first, denied this, then apologized. - Rah! Rah! Siss! Boom! Ba! Roberts Played Key Role In Helping Homosexuals Get Special Rights But Bush/GOP Cheerleaders Cheer On Insisting This Is No Big Deal
On the “NBC Nightly News” (8/5/05), Jay Sekulow is shown saying with, if you’ll pardon the expression, a straight face: “This was not a situation where [Roberts] was advocating a particular position. And that’s why I think that this is why this ended up the way it has. No one has withdrawn their support for John Roberts.” But, of course, Roberts was helping homosexuals advocate a particular position – special “rights” for homosexuals. He did this very effectively. The homosexuals won their case. And they believe they won because of Roberts’ crucial help. - “Romer v. Evans” Case Roberts Helped Homosexuals With Was So Bad Christian Legal Scholar Called For Impeachment Of Supreme Court Judges Who Wrote Majority Opinion
Rendering unconstitutional opinions, subverting the fundamental laws, and introducing arbitrary power are all high crimes and misdemeanors that constitute impeachable offenses. Furthermore, subverting the fundamental laws may also constitute treason.”The Romer 6” are guilty of all of these political crimes. The opinion is unconstitutional, i.e., it contains an erroneous interpretation of the Constitution and thereby misleads the American sovereign—the people. - Wow! John Roberts Wrote Memo To Attorney General About Me! – But No Reply To Charge Too Many Carter-Holdovers Under Reagan
Wow! John Roberts Wrote Memo To Attorney General About Me! – But No Reply To Charge Too Many Carter-Holdovers Under Reagan - “To The Attorney General, From John Roberts: Talking Points for Meeting With Lofton of Conservative Digest, Thursday, January 28, 10:00 a.m.” - Top 10 Questions That It Might Be OK To Ask John Roberts But We’re Not Sure They Are Frivolous Enough
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), a former judge on the Texas Supreme Court, has said that John Roberts must, in his confirmation hearing, not be asked where he stands on partial-birth abortion or any “hot button” issues. This is like saying he can’t be asked where he stands on murder since partial-birth abortion is really infanticide. In any event, we guess that all that’s left to ask Roberts are questions about — well, “cold button” issues. So, here’s what I came up with. - Colorado Homosexuals Targeted Themselves By Claiming They Had “Rights” As Homosexuals - Which They Do Not It is most definitely “rational” for the government to protect the private property rights of individuals to refuse to hire or house homosexuals, one of the things Amendment 2 sought to keep legal. No one has “rights” because of their sexual practices. And, despite their vehement denials, what the homosexuals sought by fighting Amendment 2 were special rights.
- Roberts Help In Romer v. Evans Indicates That On Supreme Court He Would Vote For “Right” Of Homosexuals To “Marry”
“The only reason this debate is taking place at all is because small groups of homosexual activists have gone to court in an attempt to gain from a small band of judges what they know they could never win through the democratic process. They did it in Vermont and succeeded; they did it in Massachusetts and succeeded; and they are trying to do it in Maryland as we speak. Will they succeed? Not if we can help it!” - Alabama Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker: Courts Must Recognize God’s Law Limits What State Can Do
“Webster’s definitions demonstrate that our Founders thought in terms of a plurality of governments — including individual government and the covenantal governments of the family, the state, and the church — and not of state government alone. Each of these governments possesses its own exclusive jurisdiction of authority, constituting the original ‘separation of powers.’ Thus the separation of powers among the spheres of governments is of a higher order and greater significance than the separation of powers within a particular sphere of government, as in the state government’s division into executive, legislative, and judicial branches. - 1981, Reagan, O’Connor, Viguerie & Bill Moyers
I’d like to end on an upbeat note. I’d like to say I hope Richard and the other Christian “conservative leaders” who supported Mr. Bush’s re-election have, finally, learned their lesson. I’d like to say that now, maybe, they will abandon the Republican Party, at the national level, and join the Constitution Party. But, I can’t say this because I know these folks. They are slow-learners — if they learn at all. - Bush, GOP Congressional Leaders, RNC Chairman Mehlman To Christian/Conservative Values Voters: Drop Dead The “great thing that unites us,” Mr. Bush reiterated, is that people can worship or not worship as they please. He said “you’re equally American” whether you are Jewish, Christian or a Muslim and this is “a wonderful aspect of our society.”
- John Ashcroft, Like Gonzales, Also Rolled Over, Played Dead on Roe v. Wade
In his opening remarks at his confirmation hearings, Ashcroft referred to Roe v. Wade as having “established a woman’s Constitutional right to an abortion” —- which is false. This decision “established” nothing; it simply invented and asserted such a “right.” - Franz Kafka Call Your Office, Please; But Never Call Medicare Hotline Seeking Information
Then, a terrorist threat. She assures me that the people at this email address “will provide you with the same quality of customer service that you’ve come to expect from us.” - John Lofton, Recovering Republican: His Story; How He Put Away Childish Things And, By God’s Grace, Was Raptured From Among The Republicans And Made A Man Who Joined The Constitution Party
I first drank deeply of Republicanism in 1964 when Barry Goldwater told the convention that nominated him to be President that freedom was made orderly in our country by “our Constitutional government.” In fact, he said, in front of God and everybody that government should perform “only Constitutionally-sanctioned tasks.” Then and there I was hooked. - Robertson/Sekulow Telemarketer Says, Falsely, John Roberts Against Partial-Birth Abortion, Homosexual Marriage; “ACLJ” Spokesman Says Statement “Not Authorized”
Gene Kapp, press spokesman for Jay Sekulow, sent me the following statement: “The call you received was designed to generate support for the nomination of John Roberts. However, the communicator was not authorized to state how Roberts would rule in particular cases including partial-birth abortion and same-sex marriage. Corrective action has been taken to ensure that the ACLJ message regarding Roberts is communicated consistent with our position. - Bush Reversal On Homosexual “Civil Unions” Proves Republican Party Platform Sucker-Bait To Fool Christian/Conservative One of the strangest rituals many Christians and conservatives go through every four years is getting excited about and fighting for what the Republican Party Platform will or will not say about various issues. But, what matters is what Republican Presidents *do* when they are elected, not what their Party Platform says.
- “Dr. Phil” On “Meet The Press”; What In The World Was Host Tim Russert Thinking?
Yikes! Have you ever heard such glib, nonsensical gibberish spoken so fluently? For openers, McGraw’s notion that simply being an “American” is the “common ground” that will “reconcile” all of us, begs the crucial question: What, exactly, is an American? Is it true, as McGraw seems to believe, that an American is simply a person who lives in America and this is sufficient for all of us — as Rodney King said — to “get along?” - Bush-Supporter Gary Bauer Abandons His Previous View That There Should Be Pro-Life Litmus Test For Judges It would seem to me that you should have made noise about that which left me with the suspicion that the religious right was more committed to a Republican president and not embarrassing him than they were to the unborn, so that concerns me a great deal,
- Since Bible And Catholic Catechism Denounce Homosexuality, Why Did John Roberts Help Homosexuals, As Homosexuals, To Get Special Rights?
In their attempts to defend the indefensible – John Roberts helping advance the homosexual agenda by coaching homosexual activists to win “special rights” in the Romer v. Evans Supreme Court case – many supposedly Christian “leaders” have left the impression that Roberts had no choice but to do what he did because his law firm took this case. - New Bush Education Secretary Pro-Abortion, Pro-Illegal Immigration, Not Worried About Decline Of Traditional American Family
So, what does Mrs. Spellings believe? Well, among other things, she’s pro-abortion. On CBS’ “Early Show” (4/30/01) she was interviewed with two other top Bush Administration officials Presidential Assistants Mary Matalin and Karen Hughes. The interviewer, Joan Clayson, said she had spoken to President Bush “and he said to me it was unrealistic to change abortion policy in this country.” Clayson then asked the trio if they thought their positions on abortion helped him reach his conclusion? - If The Foundations Are Being Destroyed, The Righteous Must, By God’s Grace, Re-Build Them “If we are going to win America back for our children, we must analyze and confront the critical issues before us as Christians and not simply as conservatives. Conservatism is impotent. Conservative humanism is as devastating to this republic as Lib
- Jay Sekulow Says His Job To Get Bush Nominees Confirmed; But Is It? What Does God Require Of A Christian Involved In “Politics?”
So, what, exactly, are Mr. Sekulow and his crew fighting for? Do they, as Christians, have a Christian litmus test for Supreme Court nominees? Are they demanding that Mr. Bush name to the high court only individuals who will, first, honor and obey God and His Law? Are they doing what they should be doing, demanding that Mr. Bush put forth judicial nominees like former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy S. Moore, a man who understands that the most important qualification to be a judge must be that this person acknowledge and obey the God of the Bible and His Law? - President’s Shut Up/Drop Dead Rebuke Of Christian Conservatives On Gonzales/Abortion Issue Demonstrates He Is Not Pro-Life
But, Mr. Bush has made it crystal clear that he will not have such a “litmus test” on abortion or homosexual “marriage.” Why not? I believe the answer is obvious: Because the President does not care about these issues. Period. It’s as simple as that. I can think of no other reason. - False Story By Steve Ertelt’s ‘LifeNews.com’ - Repeated By ‘World’ Magazine - Misled Christians To Think Bush Would Name Pro-Life Judges
A footnote: When I called Ertelt’s bogus reporting to the attention of “World” magazine publisher Joel Belz, he, at first, reacted in way I found hopeful. He sounded like he was concerned and would check out what I told him. Days turned into weeks, however. No reply. Then this curt email: “We have no responsibility to respond to your comments and queries. Please do not address further questions to any of our staff.” - From Day One Of His Re-Election Bush, GOP Congressional Leaders, RNC Chairman Mehlman Ignored “Value Voters”
So, the message here is clear: “BUSH TO VALUES VOTERS: DROP DEAD.” Ditto, Congressional GOP leaders and RNC Chairman Mehlman to “values voters.” - Cuomo’s Anti-Christian Worship Of Science Once Led To Medical Atrocities Committed By The Nazis
“For these scientists, objectivity opened the door to every conceivable form of barbaric practice. These German scientists and physicians lived in a world without values. Jewish values were not theirs. Neither were Christian values upheld by their peers…these scientists and physicians were ready to do anything at all, motivated by their belief in pure objectivity.” Sound familiar? You bet it does. Very familiar. - Bush’s Advocacy Of “Civil Unions” For Homosexuals Shows Fight Over GOP Platform A Big Waste Of Time
Words are important. The Constitution is made up of words, so is the Bible. Indeed, Christians believe that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…By surrendering the meaning of the word, its true essence is slowly eroded. Soon, the defenders of marriage will have a difficult time holding on to the real meaning of many of our most vital words and institutions. In fact, we have already seen significant assaults aimed at the family, motherhood, life, and freedom. How far are we willing to retreat? - “Kennel-Fed Conservative” Brother Buchanan Endorsed Bush But Is Now Barking About What The GOP Is Trying To Feed Him
Well, better late than never, I guess, as they say – but not really in this case. You blew it, Brother Pat. The Constitution Party’s 2004 Presidential candidate Michael Anthony Peroutka represented precisely the kind of “authentic conservatism” you are now barking about and calling for. But, you did not endorse him. So, please, my long-time friend, zip it. You have no credibility on this subject and it’s your own fault. - Attention, Please, Rick Scarborough, Sen. Orrin Hatch, Judge Janice Rogers Brown: Court Rulings Are NOT Law!
Dr. Rick Scarborough, to his credit, refused to put on a cheerleading outfit and jump off the cliff for John Roberts to be Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. But, he is now urging President Bush to nominate DC Circuit Court Of Appeals Judge Janice Rogers Brown to the high court. In a recent “Report” of his, Dr. Scarborough says Brown is “a dream nominee” who “fully deserves the opportunity to be our first black, female justice.” - Mexican Embassy Spokesman Confirms His Country Doing Zero, Zip, Nada To Stop Illegal Immigration Invasion Of Our Country
Ironically, and hypocritically, while the Mexican government could, obviously, not care less about their people coming to our country in violation of our laws, they deal very strongly with immigrants who are in their country illegally. - No, Mr. President, We Are Very Different People From Those Who Rebuilt Their City After The Great Chicago Fire
In his national TV address from New Orleans telling us, proudly, about all the un-Biblical and un-Constitutional aid the Federal Government would be giving to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, President Bush said: “We’re the heirs of men and women who…rebuilt Chicago after a great fire.” Well, yes, if he was making a purely biological point. But, a resounding NO! if he meant we’re the same kind of Americans who rebuilt their city after the great Chicago Fire. When this disaster occurred, there were no mobs screaming for the Federal Government to rebuild that city, as the following article by Daniel T. Oliver says. This piece is from the February 2000 issue of “The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty.” At the time he wrote it, Mr. Oliver was a research associate at the Washington D.C.-based “Capital Research Center” and a freelance writer. A version of this article appeared in the Center’s newsletter, Alternatives in Philanthropy - Humane Treatment At Guantanamo Does Not Mean Giving Korans To Those Who Want To Murder Us!
To hear Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif) tell it, the prison camp at Guantanamo is the kind of jail you’d think folks would want to break into not escape from. In an outrageous and unbelievably idiotic news conference recently, the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee repeatedly bragged about how well the detainees there are being treated. - Why Didn’t Dr. Dobson Tell Karl Rove No Support For Miers Or ANY Judicial Nominees Unless They Oppose ALL Abortions, Overturn Of Roe v. Wade?
We did not discuss Roe v. Wade in any context or any other pending issue that will be considered by the Court. I did not ask that question. You know, to be honest, I would have loved to have known how Harriet Miers views Roe v. Wade - Exclusive “American View” Interview: Newt Gingrich On Abortion, Homosexuality, Biblical Government; Rejects “Narrow” View Of Our Founders
I do think that Reagan made a difference in moving us the right direction. I do think that for about four years after the “Contract With America” we actually moved in the right direction. Part of my reason for writing “Winning the Future” was that these waves of change actually come from the county, they don’t come from Washington. It requires the American people to elect the kind of officials who will do what they want. - “American View” Radio Shows Reveal John Roberts Pro-Abortion, No “Strict Constructionist,” Man Whose Faith Unrelated To Work
On our programs 15 & 16, you will hear the actual voice of Roberts say, in a 2003 confirmation hearing: “Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. It is not—it’s a little more than settled. It was reaffirmed in the face of a challenge that it should be overruled in the Casey decision. Accordingly, it’s the settled law of the land. There’s nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent, as well as Casey.” - Your Three Questions to John Roberts What about it? What do you think should be asked during John Roberts’ hearing - beginning Sept. 6th? Submit your questions to us, and you may receive a free “Six-Pack” (of American View Radio Shows) and copy of “So Help Me, God” by former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore.
- No Evidence Bush Ever Promised To Name To High Court Those In The Mold Of Antonin Scalia And Clarence Thomas
You’ve heard it said many times and so have I: President Bush promised to name to the U.S. Supreme Court nominees in the mold of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. But, did Mr. Bush really say this? I have found no such quote and neither has anyone else. - “Washington Post” Editor-Columnist Says Court Decisions OK Federal Katrina Aid; Cites No Constitutional Authority
Our Constitution is such a dead letter and our people so Constitutionally illiterate that when you ask some folks perfectly valid Constitutional questions they act as if you are crazy. Take, for example, Colbert I. King, Editorial Page Deputy Editor of and columnist for “The Washington Post” newspaper. - Rosa Parks and Roy Moore: A Case Study In Hypocrisy
Since most Americans have been raised on a steady diet of short-attention span activities, don’t hold your breath. The scope of the issues at the core of this debate reaches well beyond bus seats, monuments, state funerals and job dismissals. At the heart of these issues is nothing less than the basic tenets of western civilization, law and government and the basis for our entire way of life! If God’s people do not wake up and start thinking these things through, we will quickly lose whatever vestige of justice and liberty are left in America. Indeed, ignorance is not bliss — it is destructive to the bitter end. - Sekulow, Robertson, Dobson All Said Nothing When White House Said Miers Religion Would Be Irrelevant To Her Judging
For weeks, White House and Bush Administration spin-meisters dangled the sucker-bait of Harriet Miers Christian religion as a reason why her nomination to the Supreme Court should be supported. And certain “Christian leaders” who are, in reality, Republican Party cheerleaders, swallowed this bait hook, line, sinker and fishing pole. - In Exclusive “A.V.” Interviews Both Of Harriet Miers’ Pastors Said They Have No Idea Where She Stood On Abortion, Roe v. Wade During the Harriet Miers nomination fiasco it was said repeatedly by some of her supporters that Miers, if confirmed to be a Supreme Court justice, was most likely a vote against abortion, against Roe v. Wade, because she is “pro-life.” And, we were told by various Republican Party cheerleaders, that a key piece of evidence that she is “pro-life” is the fact that she attended a “pro-life” church, the Valley View Christian Church (VVCC) in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Barry McCarty is the present pastor of VVCC where Miers is still a member. Ron Key is the former pastor of VVCC. I spoke recently to both pastors about Miers. Here is what I was told. First, my conversation with Dr. McCarty:
- Michael Medved Continues To Name-Call, Smear Constitution Party Revealing His Own Godless, Failed Vision
There he goes again. On a recent edition of his nationally-syndicated radio show, Michael Medved, who refers to the Constitution Party as “the constipation party,” said it was “insane” to join/support the C.P. which he called a “religious cult” where there are those who “drink Kool-Aid” and therefore are “irrelevant” and “childish.” - “Christian Coalition” Collapsing; Ignored Peroutka-Baldwin In 2004; Not Really Christian But Cheerleaders For National Republican Party
Veteran political reporter Lee Bandy, writing in the Charleston, South Carolina “The State” newspaper, says this about the Christian Coalition: “Rocked by financial debt, lawsuits and the loss of experienced political leaders, the Christian Coalition has become a pale imitation of its once-powerful self. Some say the group — now based in Charleston and headed by a South Carolinian — is on life support, having been eclipsed by higher-profile, better-funded groups such as Focus on the Family….The 16-year-old organization once was a political juggernaut.” - New Jersey Lawyer Who Fought For Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Says Alito Did Nothing To Help Pro-Life Cause
The following is an interview I did recently with Richard Collier for our radio show “The American View.” Mr. Collier is president of the Legal Center for the Defense of Life in New Jersey. He was also a lawyer in the 2000 case on late-term abortions – John Lofton, Editor, TheAmericanView.com.
